Here only until September 15, this Broadway In Chicago engagement brings the 2007 movie of the same name to life with soulful music and engaging performances. Winning 10 Tony Awards® in 2018, including Best Musical, Best Original Musical Score and Best Director, THE BAND’S VISIT steers away from the political climate of the Mid East and focuses on the humanity of the characters.

It all starts with a mix-up at the bus station when the Alexandrian Egyptian Police Band of musicians is mistakenly sent to a remote village in the middle of the Israeli desert. There’s no bus or hotel and the ragtag bunch of musicians is saved by the locals who agree to provide hospitality for the night. Under the magic of the desert sky, their lives change in the most unexpected ways. THE BAND’S VISIT’s original Broadway cast album also received the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
THE BAND’S VISIT features award-winning music and lyrics by Tony and Drama Desk Award winner David Yazbek, and a book by Tony Award, NY Drama Critics Circle, Lortel and Outer Critics Circle awards winner Itamar Moses.
Award-winning Israeli film actor Sasson Gabay plays the role of Tewfiq, which he played in THE BAND’S VISIT the movie and most recently on Broadway. He projects a sense of authority while hiding deep pain and loss. Joining him for the tour is Chilina Kennedy as Dina (known best for her historic run as Carole King in Broadway’s Beautiful – The Carole King Musical). She sings beautifully and portrays the role with humor and wistfulness. She captures the audience’s hearts with her truthful past. The music is mysterious and haunting, played throughout the story. “Answer Me,” sung by the Telephone Guy, Mike Cefalo, and accompanied by the cast, is uplifting and hopeful. The audience is in for a treat at the play’s conclusion.
The show is playing at Chicago’s Cadillac Palace Theatre, 151 W. Randolph. Individual tickets are available at (800) 775-2000 or online.
